Eikmeier finds a new home

Former Iowa State shooting guard Wes Eikmeier will continue his career at Colorado State, according to today’s Denver Post.

Eikmeier left the Cyclones in March, about two weeks after his freshman season ended.  The 6-3, 170-pound guard played in 26 games, averaging 2.9 points a game. He started out on fire and had fans thinking he was the answer to ISU’s 3-point shooting issues.

He had a year full of injuries and never really recovered from illness that struck early the season.

Eikmeier is a great shooter, but would probably have seen limited minutes next season and for the rest of his career because of the players Coach Greg McDermott is bringing in. His weight and strength were concerns, something the year off from competition should give him plenty of time to address.

He’ll have to sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules and will have three years to play at CSU.
